Coming to the United States is probably a dream for many people especially Arabs. I believe this is because most of the political decisions that are made are connected directly to important countries. When I knew that I was accepted for the SUSI program I had contradictory feelings, I didn't know exactly how I felt. These complex ongoing feelings about coming here were mostly because I didn't know what to expect. In reality this made me stronger because I wanted to be ready for everything and I wanted to make use of every single minute that I spend here. This program is directly related to what I am majoring in, so I felt that I had to be prepared for this program. I wanted everything possible about media and journalism, in both America and the Arab world. This program felt more like a mission! I want to participate in making journalism in Lebanon better especially in terms of broadcasting. Honestly I was very excited when I knew that we were going to take video shooting and editing, mainly because I have a good experience in this field, so I wanted to share what I know and at the same time know what are the differences between what we've studied and between what we are going to take in the hopes that I will bring this information back home and share what I learned with my colleagues and teachers.
The SUSI program is pretty incredible. I want to wake up everyday, I want to learn many things! The SUSI program has definitely opened my eyes and one thing I'm sure of is that I won't be the same person whi first got here . My job is to invest whatever I learn here in my country and in my university. Knowing that I'm moving on to my second year of college, this program has brought up so many new information that I just didn't notice before. So when the teacher explains something that is related to these courses I would be like yeah I know this! And then I'll be able to argue about some stuff and share what I gained from this program especially when it comes to skills in editing and in news writing. When it comes to work later on, this program would've given me a great background about what is really happening in the world and to know how to balance between things. I believe that this program is preparing us gor what might come next and on a personal level not only did this program has helped in changing the way we think about media,it helped change how I think about Americans and get to understand them more and hopefully when I start working in this field i'll be able to change how Arabs perceive Americans and probably clear out some of the stereotypes that have been going for years now.
