When I came to Pullman, I couldn’t help but notice its green fields and schizophrenic weather, a town filled with small houses and large meadows. People managed to plant their gardens and organize their nature, which became a unique combination of wild areas and “civilized” parks. My host family’s home was warm and welcoming, very similar to Lebanon’s old houses. Jim and July did their best to make me feel at home, and it worked! They love all kinds of flowers and vegetation, a passion that most of Pullman’s residents share; they respect their environment and appreciate nature’s goods. You might find my experience very boring or silly, but what I enjoyed the most was yesterday’s late walk. I went outside and was taken by the warm colors of twilight, a strange atmosphere that carried heavy clouds of deep red and purple. I walked the streets of WSU, i was smocking but could always feel the freshness of the area. This is what makes Pullman special; I was reminded of old villages while walking in the streets of a very sophisticated university. Lebanon doesn’t lack such sceneries but the Lebanese should learn how to appreciate and protect what we have.
